RKL- A Certain Point Of View- Dan Hill
This was one of those scripts where I had a million and one ideas. But in the end I just went with what came first. There was hardly any redrafting with this one. I just went with what came into my head. It's all gut (no German pun intended). I hope it does the man justice.
Panel One
CUT TO a CLOSE UP of an almost blank document, displayed on a computer screen.
The only text present on the page is the legend ‘Page One, Panel One’ in bold font.
CAPTION: We live our lives through the things we write.
Panel Two
CUT TO a CLOSE UP on a blog creation screen on Blogspot. The only thing filled out so far is the blog's title-- THOUGHT BALLOONS.
CAPTION: Application forms, letters, emails, Facebook, Twitter.
Panel Three
CUT TO a CLOSE UP on the logo of ‘The Process’, again being displayed on a computer monitor.
CAPTION: But for some of us the written word is so much more--
Panel Four
CUT TO a CLOSE UP on an email subject line. The line reads ‘Re: Ongoing’.
CAPTION: -- a means to put ourselves out into the world.
Panel Five
CUT TO a CLOSE UP on a blog post in progress on Blogspot. The text is taken straight from Ryan’s post announcing his exit from Thought Balloons.
CAPTION: To make our mark.
Panel Six
CUT TO an exact copy of Panel One-- the almost blank document, the text ‘Page One, Panel One’ and a flashing cursor blinking. The cycle is complete.
CAPTION: To tell our stories.
CAPTION: To inspire others.
Panel Seven
Wide panel. CLOSE UP on the computer screen. It’s off now. The work is done. In the reflection of the monitor we can see RYAN walking away (sorry, no view of the beard), ready to start the day, ready to start all that other stuff that isn’t writing.
But he’ll be back. He always is.

Why RKL? (Ryan K Lindsay)
A little over two year ago I received an email. I’m sure I received many emails, but this one
was significant. Although I did not know
it at the time, this email would change the course of my life forever!
Unfortunately the Prince of Nigeria didn’t hold up his end
of the bargain.
However, under that email was another from a chap whom I had
been annoying on twitter – Mr Ryan K Lindsay.
From memory, Ryan mealy said he wanted to assemble a team of writers for
a project, and was I in. I said
yes...obviously.
Fast forward two and a bit years later, and I am writing as
to why we have chosen Ryan ‘Moneyshot’ Lindsay as our character for this
week. Purely and simply – this site
would not be here without him.
Many of you would not know of the efforts Mr Lindsay puts
into his writing. He works a regular 9-5 (plus some) job, and in the time I have known him he has gotten married, stolen my
daughter’s name and placed it on his son.
He wakes up at 5am every morning to cram in as much writing as
possible. He openly offers advice to
those who ask for it, and works harder for his craft more than any person I
know.
But alas, something had to give. This Why? Is one that I hoped I had never had
to write, but it is one that I had also hoped I would have to.
‘Moneyshot’ is leaving us as he has many exciting projects
coming up – career advancing projects. Projects that have a very high
possibility of propelling him into the comic creator stratosphere, like some
thing that is propelled. Not a propeller
though. If you are not familiar with his
name, you will be soon. Trust me on
that.
So I present to you all, the tenured writer’s send off to
our leader. May he kick all kinds of
ass, and thumb us a couple of bucks as he drives past us on his way to writing
godhood.
Ryan, from ALL of us here at Thought Balloons, both past and
future – thank you for bringing us together.
Thank you for our knowledge and friendship, and thank you for helping us
all become better writers.
And thanks for the protein chain around my neck.
Ben.
P.S – Ryan and I were at a war to see who would be the first
to drop a week at Thought Balloons. As
such, I will not be posting this week so that we may both be losers together.
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
