Winter Soldier – In Soviet Russia, Target Hunt You – MK Stangeland Jr.

(6 Panels)

Panel 1: WINTER SOLDIER hides behind cover somewhere in RUSSIA, weapon armed. In the background, OMEGA RED is approaching, tentacles out and ready to strike.

OMEGA RED: < Come out now and I promise not to make this more painful than it needs to be. >

WINTER SOLDIER: < Tell me how you knew I was coming and maybe I’ll comply. >

Panel 2: OMEGA RED knocks away WINTER SOLDIER’s cover with one of his tentacles. WINTER SOLDIER starts to move and brings his rifle up to aim it at OMEGA RED.

OMEGA RED: < Knew you were coming? >

Panel 3: One of OMEGA RED’s tentacles wraps itself around WINTER SOLDIER.

OMEGA RED: < I’ve been hunting you myself! >

Panel 4: WINTER SOLDIER grabs part of OMEGA RED’s tentacle with his metal ROBO-ARM OF DOOM. It starts to cause an electrical surge that starts from the hand and feeds out.

SFX: (Surge) ZxxzZ!

WINTER SOLDIER: < Is that so? >

Panel 5: The surge starts a feedback loop, which spreads out from WINTER SOLDIER’s ROBO-ARM OF DOOM and flows back to OMEGA RED, electrocuting him.

SFX: bzzzZZAAKXZ!

OMEGA RED: GUAAAAAAAH!

Panel 6: WINTER SOLDIER stands over a half-unconscious OMEGA RED. He has a weapon pointed down at OMEGA RED, ready to kill him if he tries anything.

WINTER SOLDIER: < Looks like I might have a reason not to kill you yet after all. >

Omega Red - Screwball - Ryan K Lindsay

1. Magneto stands above a defeated Cyclops. Behind Magneto stand Mystique, Blob, and Omega Red.
Magneto: That pressure you feel is your visor tightening. I wouldn’t advise moving, or even thinking.

2. Magneto lifts his left hand and Omega Red starts lifting off the ground with the motion.
Magneto: Now relax and marvel at a little move I call…

3. Omega Red is hurtled through the air towards Xavier’s Mansion, he is a one-man war missile. We can see Magneto behind him waving his arms a little as he sends Omega Red flying.
Magneto: The fastball special.

Omega Red - Post-Mortem - Matt Duarte

Omega Red in “Post-Mortem” by Matt Duarte

Panel 1

Description: A group of four men in hazard suits are picking up the body of Omega Red.

CAPTION: The death of codename Omega Red was a blessing in disguise.

CAPTION: He had long been out of our control, and his death opened up new possibilities.

Panel 2

Description: A group of scientists have Omega Red in an operating table. They are using medical saws to cut him open.

CAPTION: We have always known about his death spore pheromones, but could never control it in any meaningful way.

CAPTION: Luckily, our top-flight scientists have come up with an ingenious way around it.

Panel 3

Description: A very sexy woman is having a drink in an expensive restaurant in front of a very fat man. The man is laughing heartily not looking at the table, while the woman drops a small object into his glass.

CAPTION: It seems that Omega Red's natural abilities have surprisingly outlasted even his extended life span.

CAPTION: And his organic matter retained his powers, proving to be a powerful and untraceable poison.

The End.

Omega Red - Ghosts - Sime McDonald

PAGE TWENTY-ONE

PANEL ONE
Exterior shot of the Senate Building in the Moscow Kremlin.

CAPTION
The Kremlin.

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT (1)
X-Force.

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT (2)
More like American Death Force, eh?

PANEL TWO
The Russian President sits at his desk. It's desolate, aside from an ashtray and a thin manila folder. The curtains are drawn. The room is dark. A cigarette is nestled between two fingers on his right hand. His left rests beside the folder. There is someone sitting opposite him - we can't identify who.

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT (1)
They come to my country. They kill my citizen!>

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT (2)
They have no right!

PANEL THREE
He roughly stamps out his cigarette.

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT (1)
And they hide behind their mutants.

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT (2)
Because they are not citizens. They are not answerable to international law.

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT (3)
They are ghosts.

PANEL FOUR
Omega Red sits opposite the president with his arms crossed. Listening placidly.

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT
But we have Ghosts too, eh?

PANEL FIVE
The president flips open the file. From this angle, we can't see its contents.

THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT
And plenty of targets.

Omega Red - Tentacles Of Power - Rol Hirst

Panel One.

Omega Red and Whiplash (the new one, Anton Vanko) are engaged in a brutal battle inside a wrecked super-secret ex-Soviet laboratory. Vanko’s coils are wrapped around Omega Red’s neck and body – and vice versa. They’re each choking / squeezing their opponent to death.

CAP: Since the Cold War ended, internecine conflict has choked the former Soviet Union.

Panel Two.

Sweat popping on their brows, eyes bulging, faces crimson, neither man will concede. Together they’re on the verge of collapse…

CAP: Where once its deadly tentacles stretched out across the West, now this once great super-power seems intent on destroying itself.

Panel Three.

And now they’re down, both seemingly unconscious. A curious, tentacled shadow is cast over their bodies.

CAP: But the petty squabbles of a dying nation are of no concern to one such as I.

CAP: My only interest here is the tentacles…

Panel Four.

The shadow is cast by Dr. Octopus (in his current, withered and cancer-ridden form). Held aloft by two of his own tentacles, he lowers himself towards the fallen Russians, examining the carbonadium coils of Omega Red with his other two robotic limbs.

Doc Ock: Especially tentacles such as these… with their power to drain the very life energy from any foe.

Doc Ock: Imagine if that technology were to be harnessed… and then reversed…?

Panel Five.

Suddenly, Omega Red reaches out a huge hand and grabs a shocked Doc Ock by the throat. He’s been playing dead to see who was really behind his battle with Whiplash. Now he’s grinning – he has his answer.

Omega Red: I do not think this will be happening any time soon, Comrade Octavius.

Omega Red: I think instead, what little spark remains within this shrivelled, emaciated corpse you call a body…

Omega Red: …now feeds Omega Red.

Omega Red - Super Fun Hentai Hour - Maxy Barnard

Omega Red has tentacles. And I'm sorry.

Okay, okay, this was originally the sort of concept that I've applied heartily to my Thunderbolts script (back-dating allows me such crazed hindsight in what should have been an on-deadline script), albeit with a bit more of a "oh ho ho, isn't tentacle porn WACKY!" angle to it all. But when the Thunderbolts script came together I realised I much preferred taking an animation approach to those characters than this frankly awful pile of carbonadium.

So, what we have instead is a more straight-forward encounter between Armour (bugger the american spelling) and Omega Red, with an awareness and snark towards the obvious connotations. Would have been Psylocke, but... well, I'm not cruel enough to torture her further, as it were.

Come to think of it, this is only the second proper battle script I've done, the previous being a much-hated (by myself, natch) Artifacts script. Hopefully this one goes somewhat better. At the least it's certainly more thought ou-OH GOD GET ON WITH IT!

--------------------------------

#.1
We open the page on ARMOUR, encased in her standard-sized energy/armour stuff (do we have an official name for that stuff? But I digress.) throwing a punch towards OMEGA RED's face, which has just moved to the side fast enough to avoid the attack. OMEGA RED is grimacing and sweating slightly.

ARMOUR: HYAA!

OMEGA RED: ERK!

#.2
OMEGA RED flexes his body into a wide-legged crouching stance, roaring out at the world, piercing his carbonadium coils straight through ARMOUR's... armour, and knocking her off her feet.

OMEGA RED: ENOUGH OF THIS!

SFX(coils piercing armour): FzzZACK!

#.3
The coils are now wrapping round ARMOUR in a most unpleasant way; one winding round one of her thighs, and the other round her chest. Think provocative, but whilst also trying to make the reader feel super uncomfortable for looking at the panel. The sick bastards. And of course, ARMOUR's power is now inactive as she begins to squirm fruitlessly against her bondage. Oh god, what am I doing with my life?

SFX(coils squirming): *squirm*

ARMOUR: Oh.. c'mon!

#.4
The coils are now fully constricted around ARMOUR. The end of the tentacle wrapped round her chest is now suspiciously close to her mouth, and as such she is turning her head as far away from the phallic object as possible, staring at it with disgust in her eyes... and face. The other tentacle (oh god I can't believe I'm writing this next line) is constricted around both her legs, pinning them together, with the end of it pointed dangerously close to her... area. (OH GOD). OMEGA RED himself is looking up at his captive, grinning in the sort of way only a truly sick person could smile. Like the reader, if we're honest.

ARMOUR: So... gross... and cliché!

OMEGA RED: ghyghyghy!

(yeah that's how you'd translate russian laughter, it seems. True story)

#.5
Close-up on Omega Red as he stares upwards, licking his lips with a perverse smile on his face.

OMEGA RED: Young lady, you have seen nothing of me yet!

[OH GOD! IT'S OKAY! THE NEXT PAGE SHE TOTALLY BREAKS FREE, BEATS HIM UP AND SHOWS THAT SUCH MISOGYNISTIC AND PERVERSE COMIC SCRIPTING IS THE WAY OF THE DEVIL AND ALL IS WELL! ALL! IS! WELL!

Omega Red - Return - Ben Rosenthal

The following takes place in current continuity. That is after Wolverine has stabbed Omega Red through the heart with the Muramasa Blade.

1. Inside a poorly lit warehouse, mostly dark. From the minimal light that is available, we can see the outline of cargo boxes. In front of those boxes is the dark silhouette of a person, hanging with arms outstretched, being held in mid air.

We do not know who or where the voice below is coming from. It is simply a bubble floating in the air, suggesting that the speaker is in the room, but hidden.

VOICE

Does it hurt Logan?

2. A close up of Wolverine. He is in the warehouse, sniffing around.

SFX: sniff.

WOLVERINE

Daken?

3. The silhouetted figure has been moved into the light, still suspended in the air by the wrists. We can tell that it is Daken, simply via his trademark Mohawk. He is too badly beaten to recognise him otherwise.

VOICE

He is your enemy. But first, he is your son.

4. A close up of Wolverine, snarling as his claws pop.

SFX: snikt.

VOICE

Does it hurt to see him like this? Helpless. Dead? Does it cleave your heart in two?

5. On the left hand side of the panel we can see the back of Wolverine, crouched and ready to strike. Taking up the remaining of the panel is Omega Red, who has Daken lifted above him with the use of his tendrils. However, Red has undergone some modifications since we last saw him. Instead of two tendrils coming from his wrist, he now has them all over his body. They form crude armour, but are also moving, seeming to be alive.

OMEGA RED

Now you know how it feels, yes?

Omega Red - Alpha - Danial Carroll

[Ok, so I may have cheated slightly on this one as it's actually the first page of an Omega Red one-shot I started writing back when I was just getting into this comic-writing game. Anyway, just wanted to say that it helps if you read the captions with a Russian accent :P]

PAGE ONE

PANEL ONE, PAGE-WIDTH
We see an establishing shot of a seedy-looking bar/tavern at night. A black-haired woman is approaching the door.

CAPTION: I love the Tavern…

PANEL TWO
A glass of clear liquid sits on a bench-top with a strong, pale-skinned hand wrapped around it.

CAPTION: Bar.

CAPTION: Pub.

CAPTION: Saloon.

PANEL THREE
Reveal Arkady Rossovich, drinking from the glass just shown. He isn't in his Omega Red costume, just a plain white singlet.

CAPTION: Pivnaya

PANEL FOUR, HALF-PAGE SPLASH
From in front of Arkady, a wide angle reveals the dingy room behind him, full of drunken patrons; standing, sitting, playing pool. He is grinning slyly.

CAPTION: The intoxication of the people in these places--

CAPTION: --prevents them from noticing the life-force I’m draining…

CAPTION: … little by little.

Why Omega Red?

Omega Red (aka Arkady Rossovich) has always held a place in my heart, in that he was my first-ever comicbook villain. Back in the early ‘90s, my first and only comic was X-Men #4, which featured Omega Red as the lead antagonist. I’ve since learned that this was in fact his first ever appearance, so if you think about it, Arkady and I joined the world of comics together.

He was quite the villain too: He has a Healing Factor to rival Wolverine’s, only Red's needs to be recharged from time to time by draining the life-force from others, and is therefore referred to as his “Death Factor”. He is also able to secrete pheromones that are deadly to anyone in his immediate vicinity, and has long Carbonadium tentacles that he can extend and retract through openings in the undersides of his wrists (both the pheromones and tentacles act as conduits for his Death Factor). Basically, he’s just a serious bad-ass!

I believe that Omega Red is a sorely under-rated character, and if he could only break free of living in Wolverine's shadow, would be able to move on to bigger and better things.
